Meetings are held three times a year - the first Wednesday of March (Annual General Meeting), June and December at 11 am to 2 pm. There is a minimum charge that includes lunch and parking. Our Phone Committee calls and emails reminders to classes, so get your class involved and join in helping us keep the Alumnae active.

If you plan on coming to the luncheons, please let your class representative know one week in advance so that we know the names and number of alumnae attending. (The Alumnae is charged for people who do not show.)

The Alumnae holds an annual banquet each Fall. The Crystal Ballroom at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel (133 - 9 Avenue SW, Calgary) comes alive with visiting alumnae as they catch up with their classmates. Many classes plan their special anniversaries around this banquet.

Bursaries are awarded annually by the Alumnae Association to encourage education in nursing. Bursary applications are reviewed by the President and two active members or with the executive. Bursary monies are obtained from the General fund.

  1. Members in good standing for one year previous to year of application shall be eligible for bursaries.
  2. Application for funding must be received in writing and include a general summary of the type of programme being enrolled in, maiden name if applicable, and the year of graduation from the Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing and a summary of anticipated expenses.
  3. Funding may be applied to career workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. provided that the subject material is related to nursing.
  4. Bursary recipients are required to submit a brief summary of the program attended for publication in the Newsletter.

In 1996, the Alumnae endowed a bursary at the University of Calgary (U of C) to be awarded annually to a nursing student in their third year of studies. The Bursary is managed by the University of Calgary. A report is sent yearly to the Alumnae informing us of the recipient and the market value of the Bursary.
The amount we gave to the U of C was $15,000 in perpetuity. The amount awarded each year is determined by the market value. The amount awarded in 2011 $1300. The market value at the present time is over $34,000.

Life membership is an honour voted to an Active member for outstanding service to the Association, the profession of nursing or to the community. The name of each candidate must be submitted in writing and supported by the signatures of ten (10) active members. Life members pay no dues and are eligible to vote in association affairs. Life Memberships are kept secret from the candidates and usually presented during the Annual Banquet.
